Teaching My Toddler to Read

Teaching My Child To Read

This past week my two-year-old successfully sounded out and read several words (like "sit," "ear," "dog,"and "this") all by himself. I'm so excited at his progress and I thought I would share the details of our "reading program" for those of you who are teaching your children to read (or will be someday). I've always believed that learning starts at birth and it's never too early to begin educating children. By the time Big M turned two, he knew his alphabet and could say his "ABC's" as well as recognize all the capital letters in the … [Read more...]

My1story Children's Book & Plush Toy Review

Before having children, I always dreamed of how special it would be to snuggle up with my child on the sofa or bed and read them stories. Baby M is now 2 years old and absolutely loves whenever I read to him. As soon as we finish a book, he will say "Another book!" and jump up to grab another story off the shelf. It's adorable and I'm so glad to see his love of books. One thing that I hadn't realized before having children though was that many "children's stories" are not exactly toddler-friendly. For example, the "big bad wolf" who … [Read more...]

My Very Own Name Gift Set by I See Me: Review

Baby M is 21 months and loves to "read" already. He points out the characters and items in a book and says what they are (cat, baby, ball, for example) and reads the capitalized letters to me. He loves to sit down with books and look at them even on his own and I always think it's the cutest thing when I catch him "reading" books to himself. While he is still a little too young to recognize his own name, I knew he would love to have a personalized book from I See Me. They sent me a My Very Own Name Gift Set to review and I was very excited … [Read more...]

I have recently started doing some more focused learning time with Baby M, teaching him about colors, shapes, letters, numbers and vocabulary.
