I am very excited for the opportunity to review the NEW Fuzzibunz One-Size Elite Pocket Diaper! Fuzzibunz One-Size Diapers have been one of my favorite cloth diaper brands since our son was an infant, and I was very curious to see the improvements in the new Elite version. Fuzzibunz sent me one in beautiful Watermelon red to review. That said, here is my review of this super cute diaper!
- One size, fits babies 7-35 pounds
- Microfleece inner
- PUL outer
- Features adjustable button-hole elastic
- Leg elastic has 8+ button settings and waist elastic has 4+ button settings
- Snap closures
- Replaceable elastic (included)
- Includes 1 small and 1 medium/large minky insert
Things I Love About It:
Very soft materials and cozy microfleece inner. Much softer than a lot of other pocket diapers!
NEW ELITE FEATURE: The microfleece inner is made from a better quality, quick drying, no pilling fleece. I really like that it drys faster and doesn’t pill like the original version does. Cool!
Adjustable button-hole leg elastic to adjust the rise, instead of snaps. It also features button-hole elastic on the back for added waist adjustment. Great for newborns and smaller babies because there isn’t the added bulk of rise snaps, and I don’t have to worry about the snaps coming undone when I’m putting on the diaper. Also I find that I can get a better, more customized fit with the adjustable elastic in comparison to snap-down diapers. I also love that the elastics are easily replaceable and that the diaper even comes with a set of replacement elastics in case the elastic in the diaper ever wears out!
NEW ELITE FEATURE: The button-hole elastic is now located underneath the microfleece lining in the Elite version, which means the buttons no longer press up against baby’s skin and you don’t have to be as concerned about stuffing the elastics back in their little slots.
All the colors of the rainbow! Fuzzibunz come in a beautiful array of colors. I’m not even sure I could pick a favorite, although the Watermelon red that Fuzzibunz sent me is gorgeous and I am a huge fan of the Spearmint color too. They remind me of Skittles!
Cuteness. Fuzzibunz definitely have one of the cutest cloth diaper styles available. The cut, the placement of the closure snaps, and the lack of rise snaps really make these adorable. Not to mention, of course, the beautiful colors. Here are some pictures of Baby M wearing the Elite (at 15 months and approximately 25 lbs — diaper is stuffed with both minky inserts):
NEW ELITE FEATURE: The cut of the diaper and placement of the waist snaps has been altered to create an even trimmer fit. I thought the original version had a very trim fit, but this one is incredibly trim! These are great diapers to wear under pants and jeans. They fit very slim through the crotch area and trim around the rear and waist. They also seem to have a higher rise on Baby M than the original version, which I am very happy about. Here are a couple pictures showing the difference between the original Fuzzibunz One-Size and the Elite One-Size:
NEW ELITE FEATURE: Minky inserts! I’m loving these things. I was skeptical at first if minky would really be absorbent enough for my heavy wetter, but it turns out they are every bit as absorbent as the Fuzzibunz microfiber inserts! Which is very surprising because the minky inserts are incredibly trim compared to microfiber. I love the original Fuzzibunz microfiber inserts and use them with all of my pocket diapers (I stuff each diaper with 2 inserts), but now that I’ve tried these, I may switch my entire stash of inserts to these new fancy minky ones! They are SO trim, and like I said, just as absorbent as regular microfiber inserts. Plus, minky is naturally stain-resistant and anti-microbial. And they are SOFT. I hate the feel of microfiber inserts (so “clingy” and awful to handle), but love the feel of soft plush minky. Think of a soft, silky, plush animal or baby blanket — that’s the type of softness I’m talking about. Another thing I love about these inserts is that minky can lay comfortably against the skin, so you could actually just lay them on top of the diaper AI2-style. (Whereas microfiber should not rest against the skin because it will dry it out). If you haven’t tried these inserts, you really should!
Things I Would Change:
The hip snaps are a slight issue. Even with the waist elastic set to the longest setting, when I snap the diaper on to fit Baby M properly, the hip snaps do not have a place to snap into. The front panel does not cover them either. So, the hip snaps end up digging into his skin. This was a problem with the original version as well. I really wish Fuzzibunz would add more length to the front panel so that there is a layer of fabric between the hip snap stud and the baby’s skin on the larger settings, or at the very least I wish they included hip snap covers to use when babies and toddlers like Baby M outgrow the settings for the hip snaps and encounter this problem.
I’m not a fan of the time spent adjusting the button-hole elastic to get it to the right size for your baby. If you have a lot of Fuzzibunz (at one point I had almost 3 dozen of the original version for Baby M), you may as well call some friends and have a Fuzzibunz Sizing Party because it’s going to take a long time to resize them all! I know I spent at least an hour one time resizing the stash, button by button. It made my fingers sore! So this is a bit of a hassle, particularly if you need to adjust all 4 buttons per diaper.
I wish they offered an aplix version, and, I wish they had prints! (I know they have the Diaper Talk “prints” with the words on the back–but I’m talking about actual printed PUL with designs all over the diaper).
The Bottom Line:
The new Fuzzibunz One-Size Elite Pocket Diaper has a lot of improvements! I LOVE the new minky inserts especially. The fit on the diaper is great, exceptionally trim, and incredibly adorable. Overall I think the diaper is fantastic, and the only significant thing remaining I would really like to add to it is a way to cover the hip snap studs for chubbier or larger babies and toddlers like mine. If you haven’t tried the new Fuzzibunz Elite yet, I highly recommend that you do!
