I am so excited to review Go Green Champ 2.0 One-Size Pocket Diapers! They are one of my very favorite cloth diapers and make up about a third of my cloth diaper stash for Baby M. I was thrilled when Go Green Diapers sent me a Champ 2.0 in Cherry red to review. They also sent me one of their newest products, the Adapt-A-Snap, to review as well. I can’t wait to tell you about these great cloth diapering products!
- One-size diaper (fits 7-40+ lbs)
- Pocket diaper with dual pocket openings
- PUL outer
- Suedecloth inner
- Dual gussets on inner lining
- Snap closure (two rows of waist snaps)
- Snap-down rise with 4 settings
- Hip snaps and crossover snaps
- One snap-on microfiber insert included
Things I Love About It
I am so happy with the fit! These diapers are very trim even when stuffed with two inserts, and fit excellently around the waist and legs, whether you have a chubba wubba or a skinny minny baby. I have used Go Green Champ 2.0′s for about 6 months now and they have been one of the very best fitting diapers I’ve owned throughout all of his growth and changes during these months. Here are some pictures to show you the great fit on Baby M at 15 months, weighing about 25 lbs (this is with the rise snapped down one snap, and the diaper stuffed with two inserts):
There are 4 rows of rise snaps on this diaper (most one-size diapers only have 3), and combined with the lengthy row of waist snaps and the crossover closure snaps, this makes for one incredible one-size diaper. The diaper snaps down very small and unsnaps completely to be gigantic, and I can truly see this diaper fitting from 7-40 lbs. There are very few “one-size” diapers on the market that are TRULY one-size, fitting from birth to potty training, and I am very happy to report that Go Green Champ 2.0′s are one of them. Here are pictures of the diaper on the smallest and largest settings:
One of the things that first got me hooked on Go Green Champ 2.0′s is the comfortable waistline. Something about the way the front of this diaper is made makes it very gentle on the tummy and doesn’t “dig in” to Baby M’s stomach when he sits down or bends over like a lot of cloth diapers do.
I also like that the inside top of the front is waterproof so that the insert doesn’t wick out the top of the diaper. Especially nice if you have a stomach sleeper.
The diaper has a high rise in the back (no crack showing when he bends over!). This is a very important feature and something that a lot of one-size diapers lack.
I love the dual pocket openings, allowing the insert to easily agitate out in the wash! It’s so great when you don’t have to worry about removing the dirty insert before dropping it in the pail.
It’s nifty that the microfiber insert snaps onto the front panel of the diaper. This helps it stay in place better and can make it a lot easier to find the inserts after the laundry is done since most of the time they will still be attached to the diaper. This is where the insert snaps on:
Simply snap the insert on and stuff it into the pocket opening like this:
Or, if you’re not a fan of stuffing, you can snap the insert on and lay it on top of the diaper AI2 style like this (note that you will need to lay a liner on top since microfiber shouldn’t touch the skin):
The color and print choices are great! When shopping for Go Green Champ 2.0 Diapers it’s hard not to buy one of each color and print because they are all so cute. Here are just a few of the ones in our stash:
I am a huge fan of the rainbow snaps across the front panel featured on many of the Champ 2.0′s. Not only are they super cute, they make it so much easier to snap the diaper on quickly because you don’t have to spend time guessing where the right snaps are. Baby M is currently on the blue snaps, so all I have to do is look for the blue ones each time.
The dual gussets are great for newborns or those really messy diapers. I’ve never had explosions or leaks with my Champ 2.0′s!
The suedecloth lining is soft and I love that it’s stay-dry! Baby M doesn’t like feeling wet so this is a nice feature.
Snap test passed! The snaps stay snapped when they’re supposed to, which always makes me happy.
The price isn’t bad ($15.95 each) and in my opinion you get more for your dollar with Go Green Champ 2.0 Diapers than you get with many other one-size diapers. They are well-made and I believe they will really last and FIT from birth to potty training.
Things I Would Change
There are not many things I would change about this diaper!
I wish that the Go Green Champ 2.0 Diaper came with two inserts instead of just one. Baby M is a heavy wetter and cannot make it through a 2 hour time period without leaking if he is only wearing one microfiber insert. Thankfully Go Green Diapers sells microfiber inserts separately (they also sell bamboo inserts now too which is neat!).
I also wish that the inserts were topped with microfleece or suedecloth so they could truly be used as an AI2 diaper without the need for a liner overtop the microfiber. I hope they add this feature someday!
On the two largest waist settings, the hip snaps are uncovered so that the studs dig into the skin (see picture). I am not sure if Baby M will actually ever need to wear the diaper on these settings since it is so large, but if he did, I would need to use hip snap covers to prevent the hip snaps from doing this. Unfortunately Go Green Diapers doesn’t sell hip snap covers. I would like to see them either extend the length of the front diaper panel so the hip snaps wouldn’t be an issue even on the largest waist setting, or offer hip snap covers to solve the potential problem.
I wish they had an aplix version! However, they do offer a really neat product that changes their snap-closure diapers into aplix-closures. Read more about it below!
Go Green Diapers offers a really neat cloth diaper accessory called the Adapt-A-Snap. This nifty aplix strip and tab set snaps onto the Go Green Champ 2.0 Diaper (and similar snap-closure diapers) and transforms them into aplix closure diapers! Once the diaper is dirty, just unsnap the Adapt-A-Snap and put it on the next diaper! They come in black or white to match your diapers.
This is such a great accessory and there are so many uses. Here are just a few I can think of:
- For diapers like the Champ 2.0 that don’t offer an aplix version!
- You don’t have to worry about the aplix wearing out!
- Use the Adapt-A-Snap for nighttime changes to make them easier!
- Use it on newborns and younger babies until they learn to take aplix off, then switch to using the snaps!
- Use it for daycare and daddy-time!
- No need to buy both aplix and snap versions of the same diaper!
- Use it to get a better fit on snap-closure diapers during those between-snap stages!
Snapping the Adapt-A-Snap onto the Champ 2.0 was easy and surprisingly quick! The aplix strip snaps directly onto the front panel of waist snaps like this:
Then the aplix tabs snap onto the diaper tabs like this:
And there you have it, a snap diaper converted into an aplix diaper!
Something I was curious about was how the Adapt-A-Snap would work on my other snap-closure diapers. I tried it on a Bumgenius 4.0, and was pleased to find that even though the Bumgenius 4.0 snaps are just SLIGHTLY closer together than the Go Green Champ 2.0 snaps, the Adapt-A-Snap fit great and my snap-closure Bumgenius 4.0 now easily functions as an aplix diaper!
I even tried the Adapt-A-Snap on diapers with a slightly different snap pattern, such as a Blueberry One-Size Deluxe, and managed to make it work on them also. This is really a great product and I love that it can be used on many brands of diapers!
I was also pleasantly surprised that the aplix strip didn’t really add any bulk to the diaper. That was my only concern when I had heard about the Adapt-A-Snap. I’m happy to say that the diaper still seemed very trim around the waist. Here are a couple pictures of the Champ 2.0 (double stuffed) with the Adapt-A-Snap:
The Bottom Line
In my opinion, Go Green Champ 2.0 Pocket Diapers are one of the very best one-size cloth diapers available. All around, I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who is cloth diapering or would like to try it!
The Adapt-A-Snap is a very neat accessory — one that I think any cloth diapering parent would love to own! It has so many uses and I’m so happy to have one in my cloth diapering stash. Such a great invention!
